March 20th – Leaving N. Lake Worth Anchorage THIRTEEN BRIDGES  Our waiting for the bridges varied from 10 minutes to 29 minutes and sometimes we were able to scoot through without a wait – but those were few and far between.  I am getting very good at maintaining a very slow to 0 kts speed waiting in close quarters for the bridges to open.  On one bridge we missed the opening by 5 minutes and he wouldn’t hold the bridge for us.  Argh!! As we crossed Lake Worth, a very large body of water with a high density of traffic….

March 12th – PECKS LAKE Again – a perfect day on the water.  Although we are heading into the wind,  (so what else is new), the air is warm and fresh and the sun bright.  We were going to stop in Stuart  but decided to continue on to Pecks Lake hoping we could catch an early window across the Gulf Stream.  Ever hopeful!!! Our next stop was Peck Lake which is south of the St Lucie Inlet.  (SM 922.2, E flashing G19).  We arrived at Pecks Lake at 3:50 PM sounding our way into the anchorage.  This is a GREAT…

The day was again beautiful and the trip enjoyable. We arrived at Vero around 4PM. I’m practicing taking the boat into the dock (not literally- I hope) and with the “Marriage Savers” I bought for Christmas making this job much easier. Dave goes to the bow and speaks into his little mike and I maneuver the boat up to the dock. Hopefully by the time we get home I’ll be comfortable getting the boat in and out of the slip.   During the night the winds died down and the smoke has settled over the water.  At 8:15AM visibility on the water was practically nil, the air so thick you could chew it.  We can barely make out the “ghost boat”  next to us through the fog and smoke. Won’t be getting too early a start this morning. By 8:30AM the air is starting to move and visibility is slowly clearing.   Made a pot of coffee. I am trying to perfect.the art of percolated coffee. Hopefully by the end of this trip I’ll have figured out how to make percolated…

Wow – a plan eventually comes together and we are loaded and ready to go. Amazing!!! Dave’s been working on Spindrift for the past couple of months installing the new wind generator with lots of help from friends and fixing small things along the way.  New mainsail and Mack Pack has been installed as well as a new VHF radio with remote mic in the cockpit. It couldn’t have been a more perfect morning – winds out of the SE 5-10 kts, clear skies in the 70’s. Bahamas Bound We left the New Smyrna Florida dock…
