The Gaspereau Valley settled by the Acadians in 1680 consists of dairy farms and apple orchards and now wineries. They made it very convenient to do a perfect circle and get to all the wineries! The farms go right down to the Bay of Fundy Tidal Bay wines are Nova Scotia’s appellation. A white wine that pairs well with fish, a mainstay in Nova Scotia, that must follow a specific formulation using only grapes grown in Nova Scotia There are strict standards of grade varietals and the wine is submitted to a five person independent panel to assess if the…

Today we took it easy and drove the short distance from Digby to Annapolis Royal. Originally this was the capital of Acadia and then Nova Scotia for 150 years. It was not without it’s strife, attacked by the British 6 times before permanently changing hands in 1710. HISTORIC HOME FROM EARLY 1700’S The French didn’t give up and attempted 6 unsuccessful attacks! The town is designated as a National Historic Site of Canada. GRANVILLE FERRY Located on a shallow harbor in the Annapolis Valley on the heavily tidal Annapolis Basin. Opposite Annapolis…

TO GET TO BRIER ISLAND, YOU NEED TO TRAVEL THE LENGTH OF THE DIGBY NECK WHICH REQUIRES TWO FERRY CROSSINGS. FORTUNATELY THEY ARE TIMED SO THAT WHEN YOU GET OFF ONE, YOU CAN CATCH THE OTHER. SKIES STARTED OUT SUNNY AND BLUE BUT AS WE PROGRESSED DOWN THE ARM, CLOUDS AND FOG ROLLED IN. BY THE TIME WE REACHED THE SECOND FERRY WE COULD NOT SEE ACROSS THE WATER! FUNDY TIDES GOT TO BRIER…

Bought new tires for the Mini at Canadian Tire but was not able to get them mounted until Monday because Sunday everything was closed.  The Mini uses Run Flats but  I could not get two Run Flats for the back so opted for regular tires since it’s a front wheel drive.  Figured it would work for our purposes up here as we tow with front wheels up. Monday morning we got into Canadian Tire where they mounted the new tires on the back and were on our way by noon to Shubie Campground in Darmouth just outside of Halifax. It’s…

July 30th and it is sunny with a hint of haze.  Decided to take another ride up to the Highlands National Park to see what we missed.  It was beautiful. The road into Ingonish was windy and steep coming down the coast along the Ingonish Bay.  We stopped at our restaurant for lunch then proceeded to the National Park. Cliff views in view – not fog shrouded! Amazing what we missed on our first go around! Green Cove Rocky Shoreline Apparently from this vantage point, the water can…
